I.
El Estado de Baja California Sur, está localizado
en la zona noroeste de la República Mexicana, limita al norte con el estado de
Baja California, al sur y al oeste con el Océano Pacífico y al este con el Mar
de Cortez.
II.
Tiene una población aproximada de 700,000
habitantes, está dividida en 5 municipios: Mulegé, Loreto, Comondú, La Paz, y
Los Cabos.
III.
La capital del estado es la ciudad de La Paz,
tiene una población de 300,000 habitantes aproximadamente y fue fundada el 3 de
mayo de 1535 por Hernan Cortez.
IV.
La principal actividad económica en el estado es
el turismo y el comercio en La Paz, Loreto y Los Cabos; en Comondú la
agricultura y en Mulegé la minería de sal y cobre.
V.
Sus principales atractivos turísticos son: El
Arco de Cabo San Lucas, La Ballena Gris, Las Pinturas Rupestres, la pesca
deportiva, los campos de golf, la ruta de las misiones y sus playas.
VI.
Cuenta con una superficie de aproximadamente
73,500 kilómetros cuadrados y tiene un litoral, de casi 2000 mil kilómetros,
sus principales elevaciones son la Sierra La Laguna, el Volcán Las Tres
Vírgenes y el Cerro Salsipuedes.
VII.
Su
folklor está representado por bailes típicos como, el Conejo, La suegra, Las
Calabazas y La Danza de Cañeros entre otros.
VIII.
Su traje típico regional está representado por el vestido de la flor
de pitahaya y la clásica “cuera” usada por el ranchero sudcaliforniano.
IX.
Su platillo tradicional es el marisco
representado por la almeja Chocolata rellena y las empanadas de marlín, la
machaca sazonada con orégano y damiana, y dulces como el mangate,
guayabate y el licor de Damiana.
X.
Existe un gran desarrollo en el ámbito del
ecoturismo en donde se ofrece, senderismo, ascensión a la Sierra de la Laguna,
ciclismo a campo traviesa, buceo, visitas guiadas a la zona de la ballena gris,
campismo, caza del borrego cimarrón, todo esto bajo el respeto de las normas
oficiales.

The State of Baja California
Sur; It is located in the Northwest area of the Mexican Republic; bordered on
the North by the State of Baja California, to the South and to the West by the
Pacific Ocean and on the East by the sea of Cortez.
II.
It has a population of
approximately 700,000 inhabitants; it is divided into 5 municipalities: Mulege,
Loreto, Comondu, La Paz and Los Cabos.
III.
The State capital is the city
of La Paz, has a population of 300,000 inhabitants approximately, and it was
founded on May 3, 1535 by Hernan Cortez.
IV.
The main economic activity in
the State is tourism and commerce in La Paz, Loreto and Los Cabos; agriculture
in Comondu and Mulege mining salt and copper.
V.
Its main tourist attractions
are: the arch in Cabo San Lucas, The grey whale, the cave paintings, sport
fishing, golf courses, the route of missions and its beaches.
VI.
It has an area of
approximately 73,500 square kilometers and it has a coastline of almost 2000
thousand kilometers, its main elevations are Sierra La Laguna, the Las Tres
Vírgenes volcano and the Salsipuedes Hill.

Its folklore is represented by
typical dances as the rabbit, mother-in-law, Las Calabazas and the dance of
sugarcane among others.
VIII.
Its typical regional costume
is represented by dress pitahaya flower and the classic "Cuera" used
by the sudcaliforniano rancher.
IX.
Its traditional dish is the
seafood represented by Chocolata clam stuffing and pies marlin, seasoned with
oregano, damiana and (sweets) candies such as the mangate, guayabate and
Damiana liqueur.
X.
A great development in the
field of ecotourism in offering, hiking, ascension to the Sierra de la Laguna,
cycling to field cross country, diving, sight seen tours to the area of the
gray whale, camping, hunting of bighorn sheep, all this under the official
rules.
